There are different types of accommodation that we make available to our international students. Based on your choice of accommodation, INTERSTUDCanada will assist in finding suitable accommodation and make it ready for you for when you arrive in the city of your studies. Know that INTERSTUDCanada can help you choose the accommodation that best suits your needs, your family situation, the duration of your stay and your finances.
Below are listed the different types of housing INTERSTUDCanada can reserve for you before your arrival in Canada:
1) Home stay accommodation:
The home stay is a great opportunity to see how Canadians live, to be immersed in Canadian culture and practice talking in the studying language (English and / or French). INTERSTUDCanada weighs carefully and regularly monitors all host families to ensure they fully meet our rigorous selection criteria. Quality, comfort and hygiene of the household are the criteria as well as the sociability, the desire to welcome and moral values of the host family.
INTERSTUDCanada carefully selects host family that best suits your personality, your lifestyle and of course your health needs, allergies, dietary restrictions (because of your religion, belief) …
INTERSTUDCanada has a network of host families carefully selected to offer hospitality to international students. In addition to their desire to provide a warm and welcoming family, host families provide students with:
– Accommodation: a single room, a shared or private bathroom, access to TV, washing machine, telephone.
– Meals: 2 or 3 times a day.
It is recognized that the fact of living in a host family favors the discovery of a new culture and provides an environment conducive to language development.
If you are interested in this type of housing, advise INTERSTUDCanada as soon as possible to begin the selection process for home stay.
2) Accommodation in residence:
Often, universities and colleges automatically reserve a room in residence for new international full time students. It is important to apply in time to secure a room in residence. If you are interested to live in residence, inform INTERSTUDCanada who will apply for you at the same time of registration in the desired program.
3) Private accommodation:
This option allows you to live alone in an apartment, share an apartment or a house where every student roommate will have his own room. Arrangement for furnished room is also possible.
Inform INTERSTUDCanada of your choice so to begin the process of finding accommodation.
Reception at the Airport
On arrival at any Canadian airport, the international student must report to the Canadian immigration office to process his/her international student status.
If the period of your studies is 6 months or more, before issuing the study permit, the immigration officer will check passport, documents required for study abroad: letter of introduction issued by Canadian embassy, visa (delivered in some cases), letter of admission or acceptance in an academic institution, proof of sufficient funds to pay for tuition/ living expenses and sometimes health certificate.
If your study program lasts less than 6 months, the border agent will indicate on the student’s passport with a stamp.
After this first step regulating the entry into Canada, international student will head to the exit to meet the resource person for INTERSTUDCanada who will be waiting to greet the student with a welcome kit. Then, the student will be taken with his/her luggage to his/her place of residence. Should the accommodation not be finalized, the international student will be taken to a temporary housing until permanent housing is available to rent.
INTERSTUDCanada will arrange for the student to call his/her family to let know he/she has arrived safely.
Visiting the City & Academic Institution
The designated resource person from INTERSTUDCanada will spend time showcasing the international student the city in depth: tourist sites, parks, museums, galleries, cultural centres, shops, cinemas, hospitals, places of worship … This will ensure that the international student will be comfortable adjusting to the new city.
In fact, this orientation will especially allow the international student to familiarize him/herself with the new Canadian city, the bus transportation system, how and where to buy passes/tickets, laws of the city and the language school, university or college he/she will be attending. Also, as an introduction to the many forms of entertainment in the city, on or off campus such as festivals, sporting events, concerts… including seasonal recreation activities.
By visiting the educational institution, we take the opportunity to make a stop at the Admission services to ensure that everything is ready in place for the student international to begin on schedule. At this time we can verify that the funds transfer has been made to pay for the chosen courses.
Where applicable, the final steps required will be taken to finalize the student international file.
